In 2002, the company acquired the bankrupt Arrow Dynamics and launched the 4th Dimension X coaster. A year later, S&S introduced the air-launched Free Fly Coaster, which debuted at Skara Sommarland in Sweden. In 2009, Larsen MacColl Partners LP acquired a majority interest in the company and took over ownership from founder Stan Checketts.
S&S also produces tower rides and has patented a compressed air system that can swing riders up a 180ft steel lattice. In November 2012, Sansei Yusoki of Japan bought just over 77% of the company and renamed it S&S – Sansei Technologies.
Intamin
Intamin is a company from Schaan, Liechtenstein, best known for designing and constructing roller coasters for parks around the world. Their name is a shortened version of “international amusement installations”. They also have a range of other attractions, including water rides (such as river rapids and shoot the chute attractions) and giant Ferris wheels.
The company also invented the first hydraulic launch system, which can catapult roller coaster trains from a standstill to incredible speeds. The ride at Kingda Ka at Six Flags Great Adventure, for example, accelerates from 0 to 82 mph in just 2.3 seconds.
